Pumpkin Spice Latte II

“A cup of coffee, home made, that comes to you dark as a hazel-eye, but changes to a golden bronze as you temper it with cream…such a cup of coffee is a match for twenty blue devils and will exorcise them all.” – H. W. Beecher

Another, more decadent version of the Starbucks pumpkin spice latte. With the added flavors of nutmeg, ground cloves and brown sugar, I dare say this one is even better than the previous recipe I posted.

Pumpkin Spice Latte II (My Recipe)

    Ingredients: Makes 2 servings

  • 1 level tablespoon pumpkin puree
  • 1 cup milk (whole if you dare!)
  • 1/2 tablespoon light brown sugar (packed and leveled)
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp nutmeg (+ a pinch for dusting later)
  • 1/8 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 2 cups strong coffee (brewed using 2 tbs per 1 cup of water)
You can also use a shot or two of espresso instead of coffee.
  • 4 tablespoons Coffeemate creamer
  • 4 to 8 teaspoons of granulated sugar
  • Whipped cream

Begin brewing coffee.

In a blender puree the milk, pumpkin, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, brown sugar and vanilla. Pour into a small saucepan and cook over low heat until the milk is warm and begins to froth slightly. (About 4-5 minutes.) Remove from heat.

For each serving: Pour 1/2 cup of the pumpkin mixture into your coffee mug. Add 2 generous tablespoons of Coffeemate creamer. Heat in the microwave for 30 seconds, then add 1 cup of brewed coffee. Add 2 to 4 teaspoons of sugar (depending on how sweet you like your drink, I added 3 tsps.) Top off with a touch more ‘pumpkin milk’ then cover with whipped cream and sprinkle with nutmeg. Serve immediately.

Glad you’re feeling better! The latte sounds good…kinda makes me wish I hadn’t given up caffeine!

Glad you’re feeling better too and that you had a whole week end to yourself :D

Although I dont have a favorite season, I decided recently that I do have a fave season as far as food is concerned. With pumpkin, cider and pies…fall by far wins in this department:)

Oh my goodness you’re back!! I had been checking fairly regularly to see if you’d come back yet, so you were definitely missed! This latte sounds amazing! I used to work for Starbucks, and it’s been very difficult to not have my pumpkin coffee everyday this fall. Yours looks (and sounds) a zillion times better though.
I’m glad you’re back. I missed your recipes and your antics =)

Looks great! though is it technically a Latte with no cappuccino?

  7. 10.11.2006

Jeff – Yup, you’re right. A latte is technically with espresso & milk (which is also what a cappuccino is). But I decided to use the Starbucks name for this drink since that’s what I’m trying to recreate. :)

A couple shots of espresso could easily be substituted for the coffee though!

  8. 10.11.2006

Jeff, maybe we were both wrong? According to Wiki a latte is any coffee + milk drink, with the difference between a latte and cappucinno being in the proportion of milk to coffee/espresso.

Whatever the technical term of this we can be sure: it tastes great!

Delicious! I made both yesterday and had to put away the muffins so they wouldn’t all get eaten in the first day. As for the latte, I had THREE cups of it, and made two for friends. I can’t wait to make some more!

  24. 10.13.2006

Sounds fantastic! I could surely go for a cup about now!

  25. 10.14.2006

I might have to try this, what with Starbucks’s being about $4.50 for the smallest size in these parts!

  26. 10.20.2006

If you can recreate the Cranberry Bliss Bar (which is one of my most favourite things on earht) I wouldbe forever grateful! :)

Please excuse the dust…
